New members always welcome

A large group this evening, for the last meeting of the year, to discuss this months book Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah
A show of hands revealed it was about a 50/50 split of who liked and disliked the book. Some people felt it was surface level, drawn out and trying to do too much. While others enjoyed learning more about the seige of Leningrad. Most agreed it seemed like two different stories between the modern day and past stories, and that the past story was stronger and would have been better as a stand alone book. The dysfunctional family felt a bit unrealistic at time with the daughter characters being quite grating. All agreed the ending tied up a bit too nicely, leading to a happy ending that didnt fit with the emotions and sadness through the rest of the book.
Score 6/10
Our next meeting is on the 27th Janurary 2025 at 8pm and the two books chosen are:
The Gift by Cecelia Ahern
And
Joan by Katherine J Chen
New members are always welcome but we recommend reading that months book before coming.

High wattage charisma from a talented young comic whos star is on the rise

The Guardian
Hilarious and Charming

The Mirror
Sharp, Funny and Warm

Heat Magazine
This (extremely) young stand-up is poised to become the next bright young sensation on the comedy circuit – expect to hear a lot more of him

The Guardian
He’s brash, slick and full of mildly laddish but self-deprecating stories, all delivered with an irresistible twinkle. Richardson may be full of self-confidence but he’s got broad appeal to back up the cockiness.

The Guardian
Confident and engaging delivery… at just 19 there are bags of potential here

Chortle
Frantic… gave a confident and well structured set

The Stage
A whirling ball of talent, energy and intelligent observational comedy who spoke with great skill and affection of his family and his experiences. He comes across as a man who could read the phonebook and make it funny, but instead of painting by numbers his comedy is sharp, strong and very impressive.
